Republicans want to slash the budget of an early childhood education program called Head Start by half – and some have called for eliminating it entirely!
Head Start helps lower income families with kids 0 to 5 with free preschool/child care, health screenings, and other support to help them thrive. It’s proven to make it more likely kids will graduate from high school, start college, and improves social, emotional, and behavioral development. Cutting this successful program’s budget would make hundreds of thousands of free child care spots disappear – forcing some parents to quit their jobs.
The good news President Biden is fighting to increase Head Start funding, so if we come together, we can show overwhelming opposition to the cuts and stop them from happening.
