Walmart’s work policies are hurting families (sign the petition)

Walmart

JusticeForJanikka

Janikka Perry was a working parent and grandparent who went in for her full shift feeling sick and then collapsed on Walmart's bathroom floor. She was left there for almost two hours because staff is instructed to not intervene in emergency situations. She later died. Janikka's family is turning grief into action so other families don’t have to suffer from the loss of a loved one.

Tell Walmart to enact the Janikka Perry Policy to provide two weeks of paid sick leave, create a real emergency plan for employees, and ensure that workers can be free from intimidation and disciplinary action when they need time to rest and recover.

Clocking in to work at Walmart shouldn't be a daily gamble on a family’s future, but sadly too many families have seen their parents, children, or other loved ones get sick, injured, or die working at Walmart.

Walmart associates need healthy and safe conditions so that what happened to Janikka never happens to anyone again!

Walmart workers fear calling out sick because the multibillion dollar company often retaliates by disciplining or firing them.

ParentsTogether and United For Respect members are joining Nicoshe James in calling on Walmart to make the following changes so working parents and family members are treated with respect:

Paid Sick Leave: Every person who works at Walmart must be entitled to 2 weeks of paid sick leave, no questions asked.

Equal Voice on the Job: Associates are the experts and must be a part of the decision-making process – Establish a Pandemic Advisory Council made up of employees who work at Walmart stores.

Real Emergency Plan: Walmart needs to establish an emergency plan – developed, implemented, and monitored by safety teams made up of Walmart associates – with clear protocols on what to do in case of an emergency.

Rest & Recover: When an employee needs time off to rest or recover, they need support, not punishment. Walmart employees work hard to accrue their time off, they should be able to use it free of intimidation and disciplinary action.

Yearly Reviews with Shareholders: Associates have a vested interest in ensuring the corporation is running smoothly, safely, and successfully for all. They must be a part of the conversation with Walmart's shareholders.
